You betcha she was right!

Sarah Palin yesterday insisted her claim at the Old North Church last week that Paul Revere "warned the British" during his famed 1775 ride — remarks that Democrats and the media roundly ridiculed — is actually historically accurate. And local historians are backing her up.

Palin prompted howls of partisan derision when she said on Boston’s Freedom Trail that Revere "warned the British that they weren’t going to be taking away our arms by ringing those bells and making sure as he’s riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be secure and we were going to be free."

Palin insisted yesterday on Fox News Sunday she was right: "Part of his ride was to warn the British that were already there. That, hey, you’re not going to succeed. You’re not going to take American arms."

In fact, Revere’s own account of the ride in a 1798 letter seems to back up Palin’s claim. Revere describes how after his capture by British officers, he warned them "there would be five hundred Americans there in a short time for I had alarmed the Country all the way up."

"Palin-Heads" Could Fuel Sarah Palin Presidential Run

If you close your eyes and think, "Diehard Sarah Palin supporter," an image of Kevin DuJan is unlikely to come to mind.

A 33-year-old gay man who works as a development consultant and freelance writer, DuJan has long considered himself a Clinton Democrat. During the 2008 primaries, he spent his weekdays running phone banks for Hillary Clinton out of his home in the Boystown neighborhood of Chicago and traveled to 26 states and Puerto Rico on behalf of the candidate.

But after Clinton suspended her campaign, DuJan made a dramatic about face and spent the general election volunteering for the Republican ticket.

When John McCain named Sarah Palin his vice presidential nominee, DuJan was overjoyed, and Palin quickly became his new political heroine.  [...]

If Palin embarks on a presidential run next year, all signs indicate that it would be the fiercely loyal, yet decidedly nontraditional operatives like DuJan who would form the backbone of her campaign. Other Republican candidates will benefit from having more seasoned organizations, but none will surpass the fervor and energy that these "Palin-heads" are already providing on behalf of their political heroine. "We would literally walk across hot broken glass for this woman," says Nicole Coulter (at left), a frequent contributor to the most prominent pro-Palin web site, Conservatives4Palin.com, which serves as an up-to-the-second source of news and analysis of all things Palin. "She represents something very powerful. It's deeper than politics. It's much, much deeper than politics. It's cultural. It's just this zeitgeist of raw emotion, kind of what our country is all about."

Of course, there are other national politicians attract passionate support, but with Palin's biggest fans, the devotion to the former Alaska governor resides on a deeply personal level that seems unique in American life.  [...]

Her speaking patterns and personal background notwithstanding, Coulter is in some ways as unlikely a Palin devotee as DuJan is. As a young woman, she was a died-in-the-wool liberal who protested the first Gulf War and cast her first vote in a presidential election for Jessie Jackson in the 1988 Utah Democratic primary.

Now Coulter devotes at least an hour or two each day to Palin-related research and writing.  [...]

Thirty-nine-year-old seventh grade English teacher Adrienne Ross (at left) started her pro-Palin web site, MotivationTruth, soon after Election Day in 2008. In July of 2009, Ross left her home in Hudson, New York, for a month-long trip to Alaska. It was a Palin pilgrimage of sorts that doubled as a sightseeing trip.[...] 

Ross and other prominent members of what might best be described as the "Sarah Palin community" reject the notion that they are blind followers in a political cult of personality. They are clearly sensitive to being painted with a label that they instead attribute to President Obama's biggest fans.

"I'm sure she's had some impact on it, but I wouldn't go as far to say she's changed my life, and I'm suddenly hearing music and the light from above is shining on me," says Josh Painter, who manages a Palin blog roll and edits Texas4Palin from his hometown of Bryan, Texas. "That's Barack Obama territory-he's 'The One.' Sarah Palin is just a woman we relate to."  [...]

Of all the pro-Palin blogs, Conservatives4Palin consistently has the biggest impact and reach. Its influence is evident in that it is the only online destination specifically devoted to supporting a potential 2012 candidate to make a recent list of the 100 most popular conservative web sites.

Most of Conservatives4Palin's contributors are not shy about their desire to see Palin run for president in 2012. Palin herself long ago took notice of the site, giving it one of her patented shout-outs in her best selling book. She even scooped up two of its founding contributors last year and hired them to paid positions on her political staff.

"She's always said the best ideas don't come out of Washington, DC, and so there's no reason why she wouldn't follow that belief in choosing her staff," says Rebecca Mansour, one of the former Conservatives4Palin bloggers turned current Palin staffer.  [...]

Like Adrienne Ross, 72-year-old retired Air Force Colonel O.P. Ditch started his web site, Vets4Sarah, shortly after the 2008 campaign and has seen Palin speak six times. When he and his wife attended a book signing event in Roanoke, Virginia, last November, Palin's staff made sure that they were the first to greet the governor when she entered the bookstore.

When Kevin DuJan and one of the other Hillbuzz contributors ventured to Washington, Illinois, to hear Palin speak last April, two members of Palin's staff made sure that they would have personal access to Palin.

For DuJan, it was the third chance he had gotten to meet her face to face, and this time, he wasn't going to let the opportunity go without imparting some political advice.  "I said, 'Don't let the RNC, don't let Michael Steele, and the media talk you out of it. Run. We think this is your calling,'" DuJan recalls.  He was particularly heartened by Palin's response. "She just looked at me, and just like she does with a wink in her eye, and said , 'Don't you worry. I got their number.'"

Sarah Palin will announce her candidacy for President in Tampico, Illinois (or maybe Dixon or Eureka) on February 6, 2011, Dutch Reagan's 100th birthday. That is not just my prediction/fantasy; others thought the same after her Wednesday address in Chicagoland's suburban Rosemont, where she unabashedly took charge of the then erupting Highland Park school debacle.

Palin fired up the Chicago crowd, citing Ronald Reagan as a driving influence in her life and political career. […]

A Palin announcement on the Gipper's 100th birthday would be that day's Alaska-icing on the Conservative cake. Statues of Ronald (Dutch) Reagan will be unveiled in London, U.K., and in Tampico, Ill. The Tampico statue will be erected in Reagan Park across from Dutch's Diner (best pies in the Midwest). Lowell Park will install a replica of Dutch's lifeguard stand/chair where teen-aged Ronald Reagan saved 77 lives as the lifeguard on the Rock River's right bank, notching his log-chair for each save. Eureka College, Reagan's alma mater, will conduct a program reflecting on his Midwestern roots and values.

This is the first time we’ve had all the kids together in the same picture!” exclaims an amazed Sarah Palin, flanked by her five children and baby grandson in her Alaskan home.

The occasion for this Palin first: helping USA WEEKEND Magazine mark Mother’s Day 2010.

Even for one of the world’s most famous mothers, wrangling six kids — including two squirmy toddlers, a rather-be-elsewhere young veteran and a birthday girl impatient to light the candles on mini-cupcakes that Mom baked — makes reforming health care seem easy.  […]

Except for the fact that the entire brood is here, this is a typical Friday afternoon: half-clothed toddlers running around; Willow, 15, hanging out with her pink iPhone; a camera crew in the backyard; dinner getting cold; and Palin ever-ready for prime time in her curly updo, TV makeup, bell-bottom cords and clunky platform heels.

The house is a surprisingly simple A-frame that husband Todd, 45, built in 2002. About the only wall decorations — other than a magnificent view of the lake through floor-to-ceiling windows — are deer and caribou heads and a rack of moose antlers mounted above the flat-screen TV in the all-purpose living-dining-family room. So far, the one visible sign of Palin’s burgeoning income (by one estimate, at least $12 million since she resigned as Alaska’s governor 10 months ago) is a two-story office under construction with an adjoining hangar for Todd’s small plane. A driveway strewn with eight pickups and cars makes the small compound’s entrance resemble an auto-repair lot more than the home of a political superstar.  […]

Having him man the home front “is the biggest change” of Palin’s new life as full-time “celebutician,” as she’s been dubbed. For years, she says, she was a single mom every other week while Todd worked 850 miles away in Alaska’s oil fields. “Practically speaking, it’s easier now that he is home.”

Only two weeks earlier, Bristol moved into her first-ever apartment in Anchorage, 45 miles away, where she works as an assistant in a dermatologist’s office. There, she is learning to cope as a single working teenage mother.

Inevitably, Palin concedes, not everything in a family works out as planned.  […]

Palin makes no apologies for the impact her frenetic lifestyle and fame has had on her children. “They’re quite independent, and they’re thick-skinned,” she says proudly. “Those are some attributes that any parent would want for their kids.

“We can see the blessings in every step that we’ve taken and in everything that has happened to us. There’s a been a tradeoff [but] Todd and I are strong believers at the end of the day things do work out for good.”

Speaking of day’s end, it’s still Piper’s birthday. For her real party the next day, Track’s girlfriend will teach her and her friends a dance. Plus, Palin says hopefully: “Her older cousin, who’s a little hunter, could teach the girls how to target-practice with the BB gun.”

But for now, it’s getting late, and those birthday candles still haven’t been lit.

Intrade represents a type of stock market which trades in predictions regarding outcomes of future events. If you believe that Sarah Palin will be the Republican nominee in 2012, you can purchase a "contract" for the prevailing price, currently 25.8. Romney is currently 26.0. This price is determined by the contact traders themselves (anyone can buy or sell) and can be considered a form of ongoing poll. In fact, this speculative trading on events has been considered for use by the Pentagon as it is a highly reliable predictor of future events.

For example, if you purchased a contract on Sarah Palin today at 26.8 ($2.68), and she in fact becomes the Republican nominee for President, the contract immediately closes at 100, and the value goes to $10.00. You would therefore earn $7.32 for each contract purchased. If she chooses not to run, or runs and does not become the nominee, the contract closes at 0, and you will have lost $2.68 per contract purchased.

The bottom line is that there are thousands of people who are speculating in this market, and the market is predicting that both Sarah Palin and Mitt Romney are equally likely to be the Republican nominee. What is interesting is the fact that until Friday, Sarah had been trailing by 2 to 4 points for months.

Note how Sarah's stock rises and falls with significant events. I was surprised that her "price" hasn't fallen with the Gulf oil spill because of her outspoken support of offshore drilling.

Governor Sarah Palin keeps the door wide open to a White House run! In an interview The Governor said she "doesn't know politically what is next for me."  Governor Palin said she will "pursue" a 2012 presidential bid if she decides it's the best way to help the American people with their challenges.

Sarah Palin said her and her family have had an "exciting and full ride" since the 2008 Novermber election. Travels all over America have given her a glimpse of some of the struggles and the greatness of regular Americans.

"If I can help provide some encouragement, some inspiration, some hope for them to get through their battles and make good decisions and get through a challenge, because that's what we've been able to do, then I am going to stay focused on that," 

"Whether that's on a local level in my own little town of Wasilla, or in the Oval Office, if it's right, then we will pursue that."

"I do believe that it is a wise thing for us to put our lives in our Creator's hands," she said. "I put my life into God's hands and say, I'm going to do the best that I can every day to bring positive change to people that perhaps need some help. Need opportunity, too."

Washington, IL -- Sarah Palin says she was taken aback to hear President Barack Obama say that America is a military superpower "whether we like it or not."  Palin said Saturday night that Americans like being a dominant superpower. She says she doesn't understand a world view that questions whether people like the fact that America is powerful. 

The former Alaska governor's remarks came in a question-and-answer session after a speech to about 1,100 people in the central Illinois town of Washington.  Obama said earlier this week that the United States must do its best to resolve conflicts around the world before they grow too serious. Otherwise, America might be drawn into the conflicts "because whether we like it or not, we remain a dominant military superpower."

On Saturday, at Five Points in Washington, that crowd numbered 1,100.  Ron and Hazel Dyar came to see Palin speak after she personally replied to a letter they'd sent her.  "We're so proud of it and we have shown this note to many, many people. Sarah Palin To Obama: Is A Strong America A Problem? Lack Of Faith In America?

Asked this week about his faltering efforts to advance the Middle East peace process, President Obama did something remarkable. In front of some 47 foreign leaders and hundreds of reporters from all over the world, President Obama said that “whether we like it or not, we remain a dominant military superpower.” 

Whether we like it or not? Most Americans do like it. America’s military may be one of the greatest forces for good the world has ever seen, liberating countless millions from tyranny, slavery, and oppression over the last 234 years. As a dominant superpower, the United States has won wars hot and cold; our military has advanced the cause of freedom in Iraq and Afghanistan and kept authoritarian powers like Russian and China in check.

It is in America’s and the world’s interests for our country to remain a dominant military superpower, but under our great country’s new leadership that dominance seems to be slipping away. President Obama has ended production of the F-22, the most advanced fighter jet this country has ever built. He’s gutted our missile defense program by eliminating shield resources in strategic places including Alaska. And he’s ended the program to build a new generation of nuclear weapons that would have ensured the reliability of our nuclear deterrent well into the future. All this is in the context of the country’s unsustainable debt that could further limit defense spending. As one defense expert recently explained:

The president is looking to eliminate the last vestiges of the Reagan-era buildup. Once the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are “ended” (not “won”), the arms control treaties signed, and defense budgets held at historic lows while social entitlements and debt service rise to near-European levels, the era of American superpower will have passed.

The truth is this: by his actions we see a president who seems to be much more comfortable with an American military that isn’t quite so dominant and who feels the need to apologize for America when he travels overseas. Could it be a lack of faith in American exceptionalism? The fact is that America and our allies are safer when we are a dominant military superpower – whether President Obama likes it or not.

Has President Obama ever stepped foot on a missle defense base or even seen an interceptor? Here are some interesting facts that you can add to Governor Palin's expertise. Knowing these facts and keeping them in a folder of Palin's accomplishments will be good for the upcoming 2012 election.

The 50^th law, if you’re curious, is fear nothing. It’s been my contention that Gov. Palin either intuitively understands the lessons taught in Robert Greene’s series on strategy, or she’s running a parallel set and has become, without knowing it, his most gifted student.

Educated in Classics, Robert Greene has written four book about strategy: The 48 Laws of Power, The 33 Strategies of War, The Art of Seduction and The 50^th Law, the most recent co-written by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, best known as a rapper whose albums you’ve probably tried to keep out of your children’s hands. They are, among other things, a treasure-trove for geeks like me. 

Governor Palin’s Nuclear Experience:

Alaska is home to the 49th Missile Defense Battalion at Fort Greely which has 26 missilie interceptors, maintained by members of the Alaskan National Guard. All of whom served directly under Governor Sarah Palin’s command. She was in charge of that facility, therefore I’m pretty sure she knows a thing or two about “nuclear issues.”

Then there is A.B. Culvahouse, former counsel to President Reagan, told an audience of Republicans that for McCain, selecting a vice president came down to three questions:

1. Why do you want to be vice president? 

2. Are you prepared to use nuclear weapons? 

3. And the CIA has identified Osama bin Laden, but if you take the shot there will be multiple civilian casualties. Do you take the shot?

“She knocked those questions out of the park,” he said at an event held at the National Press Club by the Republican National Lawyers Association. “We came away impressed", said Culvahouse

It seems the seasoned and knowledgeable Culvahouse thought Governor Palin had the right temperament and enough ‘expertise’ to make important nuclear related judgments.

“I am deeply concerned with North Korea’s development and testing program which has clear potential of impacting Alaska, a sovereign state of the United States, with a potentially nuclear armed warhead,” Governor Palin said. “I can’t emphasize enough how important it is that we continue to develop and perfect the global missile defense network. Alaska’s strategic location and the system in place here have proven invaluable in defending the nation.”

We are reminded of the fact Ft Greely, Alaska is the site of our nation’s only ground based missile defense complex and the fact Sarah Palin has bi-partisan concern for Obama’s reckless attempt to cut funding for the facility by $1.4 billion:

“Our early opposition to reduced funding for the Missile Defense Agency is proving to be well-founded during this turbulent time,” Governor Palin said. “I continue to support the development and implementation of a defensive missile shield based in Alaska. We are strategically placed to defend the critical assets of the United States and our allies in the Pacific Theater.”

Then there is the Kodiak Launch Complex which is a commercial rocket launch facility for sub-orbital and orbital space launch vehicles owned and operated by the Alaska Aerospace Development Corporation, a public corporation of the State of Alaska.

Despite all the fundraising Governor Palin has done for conservative candidates and causes, there are still those on our own side pushing the meme that while she's dead right on all the issues, she's somehow not ready yet to run for president; that she's not doing enough or saying enough to be a considered a presidential candidate. One prominent Republican strategist recently claimed she hasn't yet "transitioned herself into a presidential candidate". What the hell does that mean? What does she need to do to make that transition? She's the only one out there taking the fight to Obama. If not for her, cap and tax and health care both would have passed last summer and Obama wouldn't have walked back his idiotic idea to change 60 years of successful nuclear deterrence strategy.

First, where was their favorite candidate, Mitt Romney, in the fight against ObamaCare? Oh yeah, there's this. I guess maybe it would have been better for Romney if Ted Kennedy wasn't the first person he consulted when crafting RomneyCare. But beyond Mitt Romney, where were any of the other would-be presidential candidates when we needed someone to take on Obama and inform the country about what was at stake with ObamaCare or, for that matter, cap and trade? While Governor Palin has been leading the fight against Obama, Mitt Romney hides in the shadows doing really important "insider stuff" like sending a front group, Evangelicals For Mitt, to purchase votes in a straw poll. (Evangelicals For Mitt? Hmmmm.) When will Romney appear at a Tea Party? Or Pawlenty? Or even Newt, who just likes to "meet" with the Tea Party leaders. […]

Next, have these people read her Facebook Notes or the articles she's published in the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, and National Review, among others? Have they actually listened to what she's said? She's been just as articulate as Mitch Daniels (George Will's latest flavor of the month). She's made the same points as Krauthammer. How is she uninformed or unread? I can understand people not looking at her as a presidential candidate because they're not sure if she's running, but that's not all that's going on here. In my opinion this is the residual effects of class-ism and, to some extent, sexism. It's pretty sad to see so many people by default say, "I really love what she's saying and think she's totally right. But she can't be president." Why can't she? Because she's been so demonized by the other side? Well, if that's the reason then you're admitting that Alinsky style demonization really works. Great. Expect them to continue to do that to your leaders. Why should we allow our liberals and beltway elitists to pick our candidates? If we do, we might as well give up now and embrace our European socialist side.

Or perhaps these people think she can't be president because she doesn't look or act like one. Great. Keep on buying the narrative of what a president is supposed to be. Keep on electing your Ivy League betters because they've done such a bang up job representing you so far. […]
