Townhall’s Cal Thomas: She Told Us So - Sarah Palin Deserves An Apology -

Sarah Palin deserves an apology. When she said that the new health-care law would lead to "death panels" deciding who gets life-saving treatment and who does not, she was roundly denounced and ridiculed.
Now we learn, courtesy of one of the ridiculers -- The New York Times -- that she was right. Under a new policy not included in the law for fear the administration's real end-of-life game would be exposed, a rule issued by the recess-appointed Dr. Donald M. Berwick, administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, calls for the government to pay doctors to advise patients on options for ending their lives. These could include directives to forgo aggressive treatment that could extend their lives.
This rule will inevitably lead to bureaucrats deciding who is "fit" to live and who is not. The effect this might have on public opinion, which by a solid majority opposes Obamacare, is clear from an e-mail obtained by the Times. It is from Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.), who sent it to people working with him on the issue. Oregon and Washington are the only states with assisted-suicide laws, a preview of what is to come at the federal level if this new regulation is allowed to stand. Blumenauer wrote in his November e-mail: "While we are very happy with the result, we won't be shouting it from the rooftops because we aren't out of the woods yet. This regulation could be modified or reversed, especially if Republican leaders try to use this small provision to perpetuate the 'death panel' myth."
Ah, but it's not a myth, and that's where Palin nailed it. All inhumanities begin with small steps; otherwise the public might rebel against a policy that went straight to the "final solution." All human life was once regarded as having value, because even government saw it as "endowed by our Creator." This doctrine separates us from plants, microorganisms and animals......

Senator DeMint: “I Believe She’s (Palin) Done More For The GOP Than Anyone Since Ronald Reagan”

And everyone wants to bend Sen. Jim DeMint’s (R-S.C.) ear, knowing that his support may not only be critical in South Carolina but also across the nation of tea-party activists who see DeMint as one of their leaders.
DeMint easily won reelection this fall against obscure Democrat Alvin Greene — but that didn't stop Thune from pouring in $8,000, Palin from giving $7,500, Romney from donating $5,000, Pawlenty from dishing out $3,000 and Santorum from writing him a $1,000 check.
In an interview, DeMint made clear that he’s getting a lot of interest already.
“No one has specifically asked for my endorsement, but a lot of them are staying in touch,” DeMint said. “And I’m very interested in it, and I have a lot of good friends who might run. ... Just conversations, e-mails, number of folks who are interested in the issues, not just running for president. During this tax deal debate, earmark debate, I had a lot of support coming from Romney and others.”
DeMint backed Romney in the 2008 presidential primary – but said he’s got “an open mind” about 2012.
“He’s obviously near the top of my list, he’s a good quality candidate, and we’ve got others who are looking at it,” said DeMint, who also is getting encouragement from some conservative activists to run for president.
Palin, for one, has never talked to DeMint before, even though they hail from the same part of the ideological spectrum and are considered heroes of the tea party movement.
“We’ve never spoken, but she left me a nice message, and I believe she’s done more for the Republican Party than anyone since Ronald Reagan,” he said.

USA Today: 2010 Top Religious Voice Sarah Palin, Pope 2nd

Sarah Palin is the top religion newsmaker in 2010 to many Faith & Reason readers, not the N.Y. imam who wants to build an Islamic center near Ground Zero or Pope Benedict XVI, leader of more than one billion Catholics.
Palin is no pastor, priest or imam. But the TV talk/reality star ex-governor author infuses all her speeches and her two best-sellers with references to God and a vision of the United States as exceptionally blessed -- if Americans follow the path of Christian faith.
And this, presumably, is how she has garnered 26% of readers' votes in my little straw poll in yesterday's Faith & Reason.
I presented the cases for Palin, and several other contenders including Benedict and Imam Abdul Feisal Rauf (both tied at 23%), Glenn Beck (9%) and Rev. Franklin Graham (7%) and even the politician who brought paganism into the mid-term election limelight, Christine O'Donnell (4%)

Governor Palin: Merry Christmas to All!

Christmas is a time of sharing with family and friends. For Todd and me, that means spending time with our children, parents, grandparents, and siblings, gratefully acknowledging God’s blessings and sharing them with the people we love.

Ronald Reagan said Christmas was a “state of mind, found throughout the year whenever faith overcomes doubt, hope conquers despair, and love triumphs over hate.” On this Christmas Eve, let’s be thankful that we live in a country known for striving to embody these values. And let’s be grateful for the brave men and women in uniform who have fought to defend our values and who may be spending this Christmas far from home.

On behalf of the entire Palin family, I wish you a very Merry Christmas; and may the new year let you realize the promise found in 2 Timothy 1:7!

- Sarah Palin

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)

Governor Palin Op-Ed: It's Time To Get Tough With Iran

Iran continues to defy the international community in its drive to acquire nuclear weapons. Arab leaders in the region rightly fear a nuclear-armed Iran. We suspected this before, but now we know for sure because of leaked diplomatic cables. King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia "frequently exhorted the U.S. to attack Iran to put an end to its nuclear weapons program," according to these communications. Officials from Jordan said the Iranian nuclear program should be stopped by any means necessary. Officials from the United Arab Emirates and Egypt saw Iran as evil, an "existential threat" and a sponsor of terrorism. If Iran isn't stopped from obtaining nuclear weapons, it could trigger a regional nuclear arms race in which these countries would seek their own nuclear weapons to protect themselves.
That wouldn't be the only catastrophic consequence for American interests in the Middle East. Our credibility and reputation would suffer a serious blow if Iran succeeds in producing its own nuclear weapons after we've been claiming for years that such an event could not and would not be tolerated. A nuclear-armed and violently anti-American Iran would be an enormous threat to us and to our allies. Israel in particular would face the gravest threat to its existence since its creation. Iran's leaders have repeatedly called for Israel's destruction, and Iran already possesses missiles that can reach Israel. Once these missiles are armed with nuclear warheads, nothing could stop the mullahs from launching a second Holocaust. It's only a matter of time before Iran develops missiles that could reach U.S. territory. […]
I agree with the former British prime minister Tony Blair, who said recently that the West must be willing to use force "if necessary" if that is the only alternative.
Standing with the people
But we also need to encourage a positive vision for Iran. Iran is not condemned to live under the totalitarian inheritance of the Ayatollah Khomeini forever. There is an alternative — an Iran where human rights are respected, where women are not subjugated, where terrorist groups are not supported and neighbors are not threatened. A peaceful, democratic Iran should be everyone's goal. There are many hopeful signs inside Iran that reveal the Iranian people's desire for this peaceful, democratic future. We must encourage their voices.....

Governor Palin: Quads, Bogs, and Bones

Life is so unpredictable, and like my dad always says, it’s “too short to be stuck in a rut!” One way to get out of a rut is to find inspiration in the great outdoors. Activity and fresh air are energizing! Sunday at 9pm ET/8c on “Sarah Palin’s Alaska,” we show you a few things that we find more fulfilling than staying indoors and sitting on the couch.

Plato said, “You learn more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation.” So join us as we learn more about each other and what God’s creation has to offer, as we pack up the RV to go dog mushing, white water rafting, four-wheeling, and fossil hunting where we find evidence of ancient sea life on the high hilltops of the Last Frontier! Come join us as we experience more of Alaska’s amazing sights and meet a few more of our friends, including a very special friend we visit in this episode who passed on recently. This episode is dedicated to our old friend “Bones.” You can watch a preview of it here

My early New Year’s wish for all is that inspiration and fulfillment will be yours in 2011. Remember that one way to find that is to get outdoors.

Zogby International: Governor Palin Person of the Year for 2010 (Obama 2nd)

UTICA, NY - Former Vice-Presidential candidate and Governor of Alaska Sarah Palin is the Person of the Year for 2010 according to a recent Zogby International survey.  The poll, also names former President George W. Bush as the Person of the Decade (2000-2010).
Palin garners a 21% response with President Barack Obama claiming 16% for person of the year, and Glenn Beck tied with Julian Assange with 13%.  None of the other seven people listed (General David Petraeus, Mark Zukerberg, Hillary Clinton, Conan O'Brien, Steve Jobs, LeBron James, Robert Gates) in the survey pull in more than 6%.
Democrats mostly choose President Obama (33%) and Assange (19%), while Republicans go for Palin (39%) and Beck (25%), and independents split their votes between Palin (17%), Beck (16%) and Assange (15%).  President Obama only pulled 8% of the Independent vote.
Former President George W. Bush pulls in 44% of the respondents for Person of the Decade.  President Obama comes in second with 20% and Osama Bin Laden garners 11%.  None of the remaining six people listed (Hillary Clinton, Tony Blair, Saddam Hussein, Vladimir Putin, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Kim Jong-Il) in the survey receive more than 5%.

American Thinker: The Left Sees History's Fist Coming. Again. The Left Sees Gov Palin

The always great American Thinker wrote a superb piece ‘The Left Sees History's Fist Coming. Again.’ By James Lewis.  I posted the passages with Governor Palin mentioned directly.  I would highly recommend reading the entire piece and adding The American Thinker to your list of websites for daily news:
Want to know why the Democrats in Congress are mumbling "f*** the president"?  Want to know why the Cancun mobsters are demanding world power for yesterday's climate fascism? […]
But the biggest threat the left sees is Governor Sarah Palin.  And it's not just the American left -- the Euro-lefties hate Governor Palin in the same way they still go foaming at the mouth over Maggie Thatcher.  The U.N. corruptocrats fear her already.  Right now, the worldwide left is feeling a lot more scared than we think.
Here's why:
(a) Palin is Reaganesque beyond any politician we have seen in two decades.  When the Soviet Empire was defeated, it was by three Western conviction leaders: Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher, and John Paul II.
(b) Palin is charismatic far beyond Obama's sputtering appeal.  You can tell Obama's not happy whenever he makes that prune face, like he's biting into a lemon.  Obama looks sour whenever he is not being cheered and adored by the masses.  He needs that adulation to prop up his fragile ego.  Obama can't hide his sour face when things turn bad. […]
(c) Sarah Palin is a Reagan-style constitutionalist.  The hard left understands that, even though they pretend not to.  They know perfectly well who they are and what they are.  The hard left consists of wannabe totalitarians.  You can tell by the fear they show at the prospect of losing power.  […]
Remember also that Reagan, John Paul, and Maggie Thatcher were hit by assassination attempts.  Reagan and John Paul were badly wounded and lived with the pain for the rest of their lives.  Thatcher had a lucky escape.  John Paul's assassination plot was traced directly to the KGB; Reagan's and Thatcher's would-be assassins were also radical leftists.........

Human Events: Why Sarah Palin Is The Boise State Of Politics -She Can Beat Obama-

Though college football’s regular season has all but come to an end, it was striking how similar Boise State haters resembled those in the political establishment who despise another anti-establishment, unconventional figure from the frontier: Sarah Palin. […]
In a hypothetical 2012 contest between Palin and Obama, the chattering class would dismiss an Obama victory as having been a foregone conclusion because they would have expected nothing less. The mainstream (or “lamestream,” in Palin’s vernacular) media’s expectation setters  and narrative framers would expect nothing less than an Obama landslide because they cannot even imagine the possibility of a Palin Presidency.
But should Palin pull off what elites think is unthinkable and unimaginable and defeat Obama in a general election, reporters will deem it the most catastrophic flop in the history of Presidential politics. […]
Looking at three prominent indicators analysts often employ to study outcomes of Presidential elections – the economy, the "beer test," and the contrast test – Palin stands to potentially come out on top of Obama in all three areas.
First, of course, is the economy....Second, another metric used to analyze elections is the proverbial “beer test,” which essentially holds that the candidate voters would most like to have a beer with wins the election. I call this the “populist” test. And since 1980, the candidate who has most successfully portrayed himself as the more populist candidate has won every election...Third, scholars also believe that voters often elect a President who is a dynamic contrast from the previous President. […]

Is it not plausible that Palin could win Ohio (her natural constituency may be the blue collar, white male workers who have been displaced, and they may turn out in droves to vote for her), Florida (with her staunch support of Israel), Missouri (where Proposition C, a direct rebuke to “Obama Care,” passed with overwhelming support earlier this year), and Colorado (she can turn out Evangelicals in Colorado Springs in a state whose Democrats are running away from Obama) and thus win the election? To anyone so sure and confident that Palin cannot win a general election, I ask: Would you bet your mortgage that she could not win these swing states?
Discounting Palin’s chances of becoming President would be akin to discounting Boise State’s chances of winning a BCS title game had they qualified for it, and those who openly and vociferously brush aside Palin and Boise State are only revealing their own set of inherent—and, dare I say, elitist—biases.

Governor Palin WSJ Op-Ed: Why I Support the Paul Ryan Roadmap

The publication of the findings of the president's National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform was indeed, as the report was titled, "A Moment of Truth." The report shows we're much closer to the budgetary breaking point than previously assumed.  […]
The commission itself calculates that, even if all of its recommendations are implemented, the federal budget will continue to balloon—to an estimated $5 trillion in 2020, from an already unprecedented $3.5 trillion today. […]
Not only does it leave ObamaCare intact, but its proposals would lead to a public option being introduced by the backdoor, with the chairmen's report suggesting a second look at a government-run health-care program if costs continue to soar. […]
In my view, a better plan is the Roadmap for America's Future produced by Rep. Paul Ryan (R., Wisc.).
On health care, it would replace ObamaCare with a new system in which people are given greater control over their own health-care spending. It achieves this partly through creating medical savings accounts and a new health-care tax credit—the only tax credit that would be left in a radically simplified new income tax system that people can opt into if they wish.
The Roadmap would also replace our high and anticompetitive corporate income tax with a business consumption tax of just 8.5%. The overall tax burden would be limited to 19% of GDP (compared to 21% under the deficit commission's proposals). […]
On Social Security, as with Medicare, the Roadmap honors our commitments to those who are already receiving benefits by guaranteeing all existing rights to people over the age of 55. Those below that age are offered a choice: They can remain in the traditional government-run system or direct a portion of their payroll taxes to personal accounts, owned by them, managed by the Social Security Administration and guaranteed by the federal government.

Traffic Nirvana: Julian Assange Notices Sarah Palin’s Criticism

Julian Assange notices Sarah Palin’s reaction to his WikiLeaks.
Yet it is WikiLeaks, as the co-ordinator of these other groups, that has copped the most vicious attacks and accusations from the US government and its acolytes. I have been accused of treason, even though I am an Australian, not a US, citizen. There have been dozens of serious calls in the US for me to be “taken out” by US special forces. Sarah Palin says I should be “hunted down like Osama bin Laden”, a Republican bill sits before the US Senate seeking to have me declared a “transnational threat” and disposed of accordingly. An adviser to the Canadian Prime Minister’s office has called on national television for me to be assassinated. An American blogger has called for my 20-year-old son, here in Australia, to be kidnapped and harmed for no other reason than to get at me.
And Australians should observe with no pride the disgraceful pandering to these sentiments by Prime Minister Gillard and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have not had a word of criticism for the other media organisations. That is because The Guardian, The New York Times and Der Spiegel are old and large, while WikiLeaks is as yet young and small.
(I think he is misquoting her; at the least, the phrase, “hunted down like Osama bin Laden” does not appear in her Facebook post on the WikiLeaks scandal. She wrote, “He is an anti-American operative with blood on his hands. His past posting of classified documents revealed the identity of more than 100 Afghan sources to the Taliban. Why was he not pursued with the same urgency we pursue al Qaeda and Taliban leaders?”)
I hate to say it, but the loon (Julian Assange) seems to have a point in the  last paragraph. If the Obama administration really wants to stop state secrets from appearing all over the front page of the New York Times, perhaps they ought to start applying more pressure on that newspaper, threatening to withhold exclusive access to the president, etc.
I see Sarah Palin Tweeted this item. Well, the day has its good moments…

Gov Bobby Jindal: Sarah Palin `Absolutely' Electable as President

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal said that Sarah Palin is “absolutely” electable as president, a topic of debate among Republicans even though she has yet to announce her intentions for 2012.
“It’s up to her to make the case to voters,” Jindal said in an interview on “Political Capital With Al Hunt” on Bloomberg Television.
Jindal, 39, was asked about recent comments by Joe Scarborough, an MSNBC commentator and former Republican congressman from Florida, who said it was time for Republicans to “man up” and recognize the former Alaska governor is a reality TV show star who cannot be elected.
“I think there are several strong contenders,” said Jindal. Palin, the Republican Party’s 2008 nominee for vice president, has said that she is considering a campaign for president in 2012.
Besides Palin, a number of Republican governors and former lawmakers are already considering presidential bids. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, led the “Republican Revolution” in 1994 when the party gained 52 House seats, said he’s leaning toward running for president in 2012 and may decide as soon as February. Gingrich ‘Inclined’ to Run
“We’re much more inclined to run than not run,” Gingrich, 67, said yesterday on the “Fox News Sunday” program. Gingrich said Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, is “probably the front-runner” in the race for the Republican nomination while former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee is ahead “in popularity.” He called former Alaska Governor Palin “a phenomenon in her own right.” […]
In a new book, Jindal accuses the Obama administration of leading an ineffective and overly politicized response to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The White House rejects the charges.
The July release of the book, “Leadership in Crisis,” was pushed back five months due to the summer spill.

Darrell Delamaide: How Governor Palin Dominates The Political Narrative

Washington, DC — Sarah Palin continues to dominate the political agenda. The former Alaska governor and Republican vice-presidential candidate is driving our national discourse in the “lamestream” media, the blogosphere, social networks and, above all, in the Republican Party.
Palin comes out with a new, instantly bestselling book celebrating American exceptionalism, and every Republican who hopes for a future in national politics is talking about nothing but exceptionalism. Liberal bloggers...are talking about what Sarah Palin wants to talk about — not about climate change, immigration reform or even unemployment.
Palin preached American exceptionalism — the notion that this country is not only special, but the greatest country that ever existed on the planet — during the 2008 campaign, and forced other Republican presidential hopefuls to toe the exceptionalism line.
So Mitt Romney advocated American exceptionalism in his book last May....Indiana Rep. Mike Pence, another Republican, apparently is toying with throwing his hat in the ring because he gave a speech this week outside Washington or his district, in Detroit. He mentioned “exceptionalism” no fewer than seven times as something we need to “renew.” […]
Obama’s mistake was in his politically tone-deaf fashion to say he believes in American exceptionalism — just the way the British believe in British exceptionalism and the Greeks believe in Greek exceptionalism. Exceptionalism is the rule, not the exception, get it? We’re not so special […]
She is in every respect the anti-Obama: he is black, she is white; he is male, she is female; he is cerebral, she is emotional. She doesn’t want change, because America is already great. So she doesn’t need hope. She is the America we don’t have to wait for — just recognize.
Palin is in fact using Obama’s playbook against him. She is, as her supporters often noted in the 2008 campaign, no less qualified to be president than he is (though we might ask now if we really want to go that route again). […]
We’ll see. In the meantime, it seems that Palin — not Obama, not incoming House Speaker John Boehner, not any of the political dwarves who may contest the 2012 Republican presidential nomination along with this exceptional Snow White — will be writing our political narrative.

Will Palin Run? She Already Is (Beating Obama & MSM At Every Turn)

Questions about Sarah Palin’s future political plans are ubiquitous. From the left and the right, political pundits wonder aloud if she’s really thinking about running for the office of president in 2012. And depending on the pundit, the questions over whether she will run are usually tied to reasons why she should or shouldn’t.
But missing in all this guesswork over Palin’s intentions and the weighing of the pluses and minuses of her possible candidacy is the simple fact that she’s already running for president, and so far, she’s beating Obama and the mainstream media at every turn.
While I’ve suspected that she was already running for some time, it dawned on me with near certainty after she released her “Thanksgiving Message to All 57 States” last week. Her willingness to mock Obama’s 2008 claim that he’d campaigned in “57 states” proved that she has absolutely no fear of running against him. It also showed that she meant what she said about running against Obama in 2012 when she told Barbara Walters she could beat Obama.
I believe she started running for the office on the first weekend of February 2010, when she stood before the Tea Party convention in Nashville, Tennessee, and asked: “How’s that hope-y, change-y stuff working for you?” (It doesn’t seem a great stretch to reach back to 1980 and juxtapose this with then-candidate Ronald Reagan’s famous question about the Carter years: “Are you better off now than you were four years ago?”)
At that same Tea Party convention, the mainstream media seized on the fact that Palin had written speech notes on the palm of one of her hands before ascending the podium. Groups like ThinkProgress.org and media figures like Andrea Mitchell mocked Palin for this, so Palin simply mocked them back by showing up a few days later at a campaign stop for Texas Governor Rick Perry with the words “Hi Mom” written on the palm of her hand. Since then, she’s continued to dismantle the assaults of the mainstream media while simultaneously taking Obama to task on point after point.....

Governor Palin: “America By Heart” Book Tour and Reviews

The “America By Heart” book tour continues today in Baton Rouge, LA and Little Rock, AR. Click here for details

I got a chance to speak with Jedediah Bila from Human Events last week. You can check out her great column about it here.

Last May I had the honor of meeting radio show host Hugh Hewitt at an event we both spoke at in Denver. He’s a great patriot, and I’m humbled by his kind words about “America By Heart.” You can read his review here.

I mention in “America By Heart” that National Review is one of my favorite magazines, and I used excerpts of articles by a number of NR writers. Among them is Kathryn Jean Lopez, who always has such wonderful insight into cultural issues, particularly in regard to building a culture of life. I’m honored by her thoughtful review of “America By Heart” and especially by her including it in the same review with Pope Benedict’s new book. You can read her article here.

Fox & Friends interviewed Luigi Zingales, the University of Chicago economist whose work I mentioned in “America By Heart.” You can see the interview here.

I look forward to seeing you in Baton Rouge and Little Rock today and signing your books!
