The MSM Tries But Governor Palin Has A Very Strong Record

David Nelson, of the Leader Telegram, wrote a very telling piece on how irrational and wrong the left is about Governor Palin. He briefly touched on Governor Palin’s successes as governor of Alaska but his point is clearly made.

Why does the left have such a preoccupation with bashing Sarah Palin? What is it about her that frightens them so?

A recent column by Gene Lyons is a case in point. Most of his article came from MSNBC, which has the same credibility in evaluating a conservative as Rush Limbaugh has in giving a reasoned, rational evaluation of Obama.

At one point, Lyons says Palin couldn't run a Wal-Mart. He needs to read more. According to Time Magazine, as mayor of Wasilla, Palin doubled the size of the town and eliminated the property tax. She was appointed to the Alaska Pipeline Commission, a plum job that pays $112,500 a year. When she realized the commission wasn't working for the welfare of the people, she complained to her superior and was told, "That's the oil business in Alaska" and that Alaska law forbids members to make commission work public. She resigned and brought the issue to the public. The commission was reformed, and several member were prosecuted and convicted under ethics laws. She enjoyed popularity above 80 percent because as they say, "Alaska Works."

(What people also need to realize is that in the US we have ONLY 5 states that are in the black -financially sound- and thanks to Gov Palin AK is one of them. She put aside $6.6 billion in rainy-day funds and $1 billion for education and still cut the state budget. Bankrupt states like FL, CA, NY and IL spent like drunken sailors, when times where good and thought they had no need to save, but not Governor Palin & AK.)

When the chief executive of the oil pipeline consortium visited Alaska, she refused to see him until he renegotiated the contract. ExxonMobil, BP and Conoco were sitting on huge reserves of natural gas, and she told them to start developing the field or she would put the land up for bids. They balked, but have agreed to a 17% increase. She has used oil revenue to develop roads, bridges, technology infrastructure and schools. (This is also part of the funds each AK citizen receives annually. She also renegotiated with the Feds lowering oil taxes, keeping an extra $.640 billion, for AK. She always plays hardball, usually wins and many governors, like Schwarzenegger & Crist, have gotten a lot of heat for allowing the Feds & oil companies to call the shots, unlike Gov Palin.)

Apparently, Lyons doesn't read the news, but Palin was exonerated (not just acquitted) from the charges against her related to her ex-brother-in-law.

Her resignation may very well be her political death knell, but she still has a important voice.

  2. I think it's funny that most of the budget surplus in alaska is due to the almost complete lack of Elder/End of Life care. In the next few weeks, it's going to be interesting to see Alaska open an investigation into this.

  3. Lyons doesn't go far enough chronicling Palin's accomplishments. She did more in few years that Obama did in his career before being elected President.
