Rahm Emanuel, the White House chief of staff, apologized for using the word “retarded” to describe liberals at a closed-door meeting last year. Posted by the NY Times & Jeff Zeleny
Mr. Emanuel expressed his regret to Tim Shriver, the chief executive officer of the Special Olympics, last week after the remark was reported in an article by The Wall Street Journal about growing liberal angst at the chief of staff.
The apology comes as former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin called on President Obama to fire Mr. Emanuel. In a statement on her Facebook page, Ms. Palin described the comments as a “sick and offensive tactic.”
Here is Ms. Palin’s comment, which came in the form of an open letter to the president:
“I would ask the president to show decency in this process by eliminating one member of that inner circle, Mr. Rahm Emanuel, and not allow Rahm’s continued indecent tactics to cloud efforts. Yes, Rahm is known for his caustic, crude references about those with whom he disagrees, but his recent tirade against participants in a strategy session was such a strong slap in many American faces that our president is doing himself a disservice by seeming to condone Rahm’s recent sick and offensive tactic. […]
As my friend in North Andover says, “This isn’t about politics; it’s about decency. I am not speaking as a political figure but as a parent and as an everyday American wanting my child to grow up in a country free from mindless prejudice and discrimination, free from gratuitous insults of people who are ostensibly smart enough to know better… Have you no sense of decency, sir?”
Mr. President, you can do better, and our country deserves better more.......
I am always amazed at the impact Sarah Palin has!! She is more and more impressive with everything she choses to do!

Retarded:limited in intelligent communication, use of words, understanding of concepts, issues and concerns of specific arenas or just everyday living. How is it disparaging to use the "label" on those who fit the description if the person who fits the label is unfit for the job he/she's been assigned?
ReplyDeleteSo stop and think for a minute... What would the opposite of "progressive" be in this day and age? Apparently Rahm Emanuel thought it was the BEST word to use to describe the mindset of those completely opposed to his progressive mindset and programs. Anyone opposing him is acting like a stone around his neck, retarding his progress, so to speak. So, instead of saying "anti-progressive", he chose the unfortunate term "retarded." The mouth speaks from what is in the heart, so now we see what is in Rahm Emanuel's heart. Mr. Emanuel, you need God just as much as we "retarded, anti-progressive, anti-liberal, Bible-hugging, redneck, gun-loving" folks do.
