Civilians & Troops Chant “Sarah, Sarah, Sarah”, Donates All Royalties To Ft Hood

Amanda Kim Stairrett of The Killeen Daily Herald Reported: Palin visits post
Ft Hood, TX – The Governor was welcomed to Central Texas Friday night by a crowd calling her name. "Sa-rah! Sa-rah! Sar-ah!" chanted the hundreds of troops and civilians waiting in the food court at the Clear Creek Main Exchange.

Sarah Palin made a stop at Ft Hood from 6 to 9 p.m. as part of her nationwide book tour. "Going Rogue: An American Life" was released Nov. 18 and is No. 1 on the New York Times Best Seller List.

Larry Sharp made the three-hour drive from Brenham and was the first person in line at 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Store officials handed out 500 wristbands to waiting customers, which guaranteed they'd get an autograph. Blue tickets were given to the next 250 in line, which gave them the possibility of meeting Sarah Palin. If time permitted, the 500 people in line behind them might get a chance for an autograph and a few words with Palin.

Sharp wanted to meet Palin so he could give her a hug and words of encouragement. The media makes disparaging remarks about her, he said shortly after getting a copy of "Going Rogue" signed, and he wanted her to know that people really do care about her.

Palin was joined by her husband, Todd, and Sharp appreciated he was by his wife's side. Sharp waited in line outside and later inside the store for about 22 hours. He wore a pair of brown Carhart overalls to keep warm. Palin recognized the brand and told Sharp she loved his Carhart, he recalled with a proud smile.

Was the wait worth the brief moments with Palin? "Absolutely," Sharp said. "Absolutely. She's a lady that has class."

Customers at Friday's event were limited to two books each, and the store made 4,000 books available, Deb Jantek, Clear Creek manager said earlier this week.  Post officials said Friday that a portion of the Fort Hood book sales would go to the Association of the U.S. Army's fund to aid victims and families of the Nov. 5 shooting at the Soldier Readiness Processing Center.
