Hot Air Pres Straw Poll (7,222 Votes): #1 Palin, #4 Romney, #7 Bachman, #8 Trump & #10 Huckabee

I’m going to start off with the Presidential picks even though it’s secondary to our main purpose, and then get to the nitty gritty in the rest of the data. As always, contact me if you have questions or comments; the number of approaches I could take to highlight the data are nearly endless, so tell me if you have a particular wrinkle in mind. 7222 readers participated in the survey.
Sarah Palin once again leads the Primary race among Hot Air readers. She is again followed by Herman Cain in second. Tim Pawlenty and Mitch Daniels take third and fourth place respectively, while Mitt Romney leads a very tight pack of Rand Paul and Michele Bachmann, in fifth.

Darrell Delamaide: How Governor Palin Dominates The Political Narrative

Washington, DC — Sarah Palin continues to dominate the political agenda. The former Alaska governor and Republican vice-presidential candidate is driving our national discourse in the “lamestream” media, the blogosphere, social networks and, above all, in the Republican Party.
Palin comes out with a new, instantly bestselling book celebrating American exceptionalism, and every Republican who hopes for a future in national politics is talking about nothing but exceptionalism. Liberal bloggers...are talking about what Sarah Palin wants to talk about — not about climate change, immigration reform or even unemployment.
Palin preached American exceptionalism — the notion that this country is not only special, but the greatest country that ever existed on the planet — during the 2008 campaign, and forced other Republican presidential hopefuls to toe the exceptionalism line.
So Mitt Romney advocated American exceptionalism in his book last May....Indiana Rep. Mike Pence, another Republican, apparently is toying with throwing his hat in the ring because he gave a speech this week outside Washington or his district, in Detroit. He mentioned “exceptionalism” no fewer than seven times as something we need to “renew.” […]
Obama’s mistake was in his politically tone-deaf fashion to say he believes in American exceptionalism — just the way the British believe in British exceptionalism and the Greeks believe in Greek exceptionalism. Exceptionalism is the rule, not the exception, get it? We’re not so special […]
She is in every respect the anti-Obama: he is black, she is white; he is male, she is female; he is cerebral, she is emotional. She doesn’t want change, because America is already great. So she doesn’t need hope. She is the America we don’t have to wait for — just recognize.
Palin is in fact using Obama’s playbook against him. She is, as her supporters often noted in the 2008 campaign, no less qualified to be president than he is (though we might ask now if we really want to go that route again). […]
We’ll see. In the meantime, it seems that Palin — not Obama, not incoming House Speaker John Boehner, not any of the political dwarves who may contest the 2012 Republican presidential nomination along with this exceptional Snow White — will be writing our political narrative.

Sarah Palin Keynote Speaker: Bakersfield Business Conference w/ Rove, Cheney, Gingrich, Romney & Guiliani - Oct 9th -

After a five-year hiatus, the Bakersfield Business Conference is back, this time featuring a lineup of Republican heavyweights that includes Sarah Palin, former Vice President Dick Cheney and Karl Rove.
As in past years -- when it was held annually -- the conference will feel more political than business. In fact, three potential 2012 Republican presidential candidates are on the bill: Palin, the former Alaska governor, as well as former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. […]
He said Donna Brazile, a Democratic consultant and political pundit who managed Al Gore's 2000 presidential campaign, is coming, as is political consultant Bob Beckel, who ran Walter Mondale's unsuccessful 1984 presidential bid against Ronald Reagan.
"We selected these people because they are great speakers," Martin said. Neither, however, is on the main stage, which is reserved for the heavyweights such as Palin, who was the event's main draw. Martin said as of late, however, the appearance of the outspoken Cheney also has drawn a lot of interest.
Organizers expect a crowd of more than 10,000. […]
The one-day event also features comedians Rich Little and Paul Rodriguez, actresses Jane Seymour and Goldie Hawn and singer Ronnie Milsap.
In its time, the conference has attracted high-profile speakers from the business, entertainment and political fields. Among them: Donald Trump, former presidents Reagan, Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter, comedian Bob Hope and businessman Lee Iacocca.

Sarah Palin Interview: Will Pursue A Presidential Bid In 2012

Governor Sarah Palin keeps the door wide open to a White House run! In an interview The Governor said she "doesn't know politically what is next for me."  Governor Palin said she will "pursue" a 2012 presidential bid if she decides it's the best way to help the American people with their challenges.
Sarah Palin said her and her family have had an "exciting and full ride" since the 2008 Novermber election. Travels all over America have given her a glimpse of some of the struggles and the greatness of regular Americans.
"If I can help provide some encouragement, some inspiration, some hope for them to get through their battles and make good decisions and get through a challenge, because that's what we've been able to do, then I am going to stay focused on that,"
"Whether that's on a local level in my own little town of Wasilla, or in the Oval Office, if it's right, then we will pursue that."
"I do believe that it is a wise thing for us to put our lives in our Creator's hands," she said. "I put my life into God's hands and say, I'm going to do the best that I can every day to bring positive change to people that perhaps need some help. Need opportunity, too."
"That's what I'm going to do, day to day, not necessarily knowing what will bring to my family, to my country, to my life, in the next year, two years, three years down the road," she added.

Sarah Palin To Obama: Is A Strong America A Problem? Lack Of Faith In America?

Asked this week about his faltering efforts to advance the Middle East peace process, President Obama did something remarkable. In front of some 47 foreign leaders and hundreds of reporters from all over the world, President Obama said that “whether we like it or not, we remain a dominant military superpower.”
Whether we like it or not? Most Americans do like it. America’s military may be one of the greatest forces for good the world has ever seen, liberating countless millions from tyranny, slavery, and oppression over the last 234 years. As a dominant superpower, the United States has won wars hot and cold; our military has advanced the cause of freedom in Iraq and Afghanistan and kept authoritarian powers like Russian and China in check.

Photo By Michelle Shepard / Toronto Star
It is in America’s and the world’s interests for our country to remain a dominant military superpower, but under our great country’s new leadership that dominance seems to be slipping away. President Obama has ended production of the F-22, the most advanced fighter jet this country has ever built. He’s gutted our missile defense program by eliminating shield resources in strategic places including Alaska. And he’s ended the program to build a new generation of nuclear weapons that would have ensured the reliability of our nuclear deterrent well into the future. All this is in the context of the country’s unsustainable debt that could further limit defense spending. As one defense expert recently explained:
The president is looking to eliminate the last vestiges of the Reagan-era buildup. Once the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are “ended” (not “won”), the arms control treaties signed, and defense budgets held at historic lows while social entitlements and debt service rise to near-European levels, the era of American superpower will have passed.
The truth is this: by his actions we see a president who seems to be much more comfortable with an American military that isn’t quite so dominant and who feels the need to apologize for America when he travels overseas. Could it be a lack of faith in American exceptionalism? The fact is that America and our allies are safer when we are a dominant military superpower – whether President Obama likes it or not.

Palin - Romney 2012: Formidable Ticket & The Best Of Both Worlds

“Sounds pretty good,” Palin declared at yesterday’s Tea Party Express rally on the Common when asked about pairing up with the former Bay State governor - giving the idea a big thumbs-up as she left the stage after her headline speech.
Last night, as Palin stopped for cannoli at Mike’s Pastry in the North End, she said she was “serious” about the idea. “I have a lot of respect for Mitt,” she told the Herald.  Asked who would be on top of the ticket, Palin roared, “Ha! I haven’t even thought that far ahead yet.” […]

“Mitt Romney respects Sarah Palin and he appreciates the contributions she makes to the party,” said Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom. “But his immediate focus is on helping Republicans win back the Congress in 2010.” Some veteran political observers were intrigued by the notion of the two telegenic former GOP governors on the same ticket.
“They both have a lot they can offer a campaign,” said Douglas Lorenz, a California-based GOP consultant. “Romney has the experience as a governor and experience as a candidate for president, and when you combine that with Sarah Palin’s ability to get people motivated, that could definitely be a formidable ticket.”
Republican gubernatorial candidate Christy Mihos called the matchup “the best of both worlds.” “They both come at it from totally different parts of the spectrum,” said Mihos, who attended yesterday’s Tea Party rally. “One deals on a gut level with people and the other is highly successful on the business end of things.” […]
State Treasurer Tim Cahill, who also is running for governor as an independent, joked that a prospective alliance between Palin and Romney would “a good-looking ticket.”

Sarah Palin 100% Presidential & Ready, Where is Mitt & His RomneyCare?

Despite all the fundraising Governor Palin has done for conservative candidates and causes, there are still those on our own side pushing the meme that while she's dead right on all the issues, she's somehow not ready yet to run for president; that she's not doing enough or saying enough to be a considered a presidential candidate. One prominent Republican strategist recently claimed she hasn't yet "transitioned herself into a presidential candidate". What the hell does that mean? What does she need to do to make that transition? She's the only one out there taking the fight to Obama. If not for her, cap and tax and health care both would have passed last summer and Obama wouldn't have walked back his idiotic idea to change 60 years of successful nuclear deterrence strategy.
First, where was their favorite candidate, Mitt Romney, in the fight against ObamaCare? Oh yeah, there's this. I guess maybe it would have been better for Romney if Ted Kennedy wasn't the first person he consulted when crafting RomneyCare. But beyond Mitt Romney, where were any of the other would-be presidential candidates when we needed someone to take on Obama and inform the country about what was at stake with ObamaCare or, for that matter, cap and trade? While Governor Palin has been leading the fight against Obama, Mitt Romney hides in the shadows doing really important "insider stuff" like sending a front group, Evangelicals For Mitt, to purchase votes in a straw poll. (Evangelicals For Mitt? Hmmmm.) When will Romney appear at a Tea Party? Or Pawlenty? Or even Newt, who just likes to "meet" with the Tea Party leaders. […]
Next, have these people read her Facebook Notes or the articles she's published in the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, and National Review, among others? Have they actually listened to what she's said? She's been just as articulate as Mitch Daniels (George Will's latest flavor of the month). She's made the same points as Krauthammer. How is she uninformed or unread? I can understand people not looking at her as a presidential candidate because they're not sure if she's running, but that's not all that's going on here. In my opinion this is the residual effects of class-ism and, to some extent, sexism. It's pretty sad to see so many people by default say, "I really love what she's saying and think she's totally right. But she can't be president." Why can't she? Because she's been so demonized by the other side? Well, if that's the reason then you're admitting that Alinsky style demonization really works. Great. Expect them to continue to do that to your leaders. Why should we allow our liberals and beltway elitists to pick our candidates? If we do, we might as well give up now and embrace our European socialist side.
Or perhaps these people think she can't be president because she doesn't look or act like one. Great. Keep on buying the narrative of what a president is supposed to be. Keep on electing your Ivy League betters because they've done such a bang up job representing you so far. […]

Sarah Palin: Obama Is Wrong, Stand Up For SEALs Standing Up For Us

First the Obama Administration opened up the possibility of prosecuting CIA interrogators doing their jobs seeking information from terrorists. Then they tried to go after the Bush Administration lawyers who acted in good faith to protect us in the months after 9/11. Now some of the military brass are court-martialing three brave Navy SEALs for allegedly throwing a single punch at Iraqi terrorist leader Ahmed Hashim Abed. This is wrong. The Washington Times got it right: Save the SEALs.
These brave warriors belong in combat, not in the courthouse. They captured the most wanted terrorist in Iraq. We may never know how many other heroic missions they undertook on behalf of our country. The charges should be dropped, and they should be returned to their unit – with our gratitude for their service.
Stand up for the SEALs who are standing up for us!

Sarah Palin Would Challenge Obama in 2012: 4-1 Margin Palin More Qualified

The former Alaska governor named Sarah Palin is telling FoxNews.com that she would be eager to challenge President Barack Obama in 2012 presidential race.  This would be quite a debate to watch as Sarah Palin would easily hand Obama his privates on a plater.
Sarah released the keynote address at the tea party convention Saturday, using it to hit Obama on terrorism. Palin also concluded that she will focus on the future Republican Party primaries, and that she may prop up hundreds of candidates ahead in the months.
"I think that President Obama with all due respect, his lack of experience is really made manifest in the way that decisions are made in the White House today”, added Sarah Palin.
A survey recently showed that she could have the hold to increase a competitive presidential race and strong questions were asked in the campaign about her experience and qualifications.
A poll last week had her leading, by a few points, the pack of potential Republican Party candidates. The Research 2000 unveiled Republican voters thinks that she is more qualified to be president than Obama by a margin of 4-1.
Considering Sarah Palin has success as an owner of two business, two terms as mayor, commissioner and governor compared to Obama’s failed first year in The White House the margin should be 8-1.
With Obama’s disastrous first year most Americas are waking up to the realization he is incredibly incompetent and clueless.  Unfortunately things are likely to get worse for Obama.  God help us all!

Framing The Debate: Sarah Palin Common Sense Vs Obama Bullcrap

Ted Belman, of Israpundit.com, wrote a very insightful piece: Palin is framing the debate. “my common sense v your bullcrap” .
Sarah Palin is a fighter, a barracuda or a pitbull, with lipstick of course. She is on the prowl for Obama.  More than anyone else, she is responsible for the decline in the prospects, for not only Obamacare but for Obama’s presidency as well.
Palin endeared herself to conservatives because she took on Obama in her acceptance speech. Unfortunately McCain didn’t have the stomach for it and muzzled her instead. Now she is calling the shots.
By repeating her mantra in every speech or comment she makes, she is branding herself. She presents her policies as axiomatic, requiring no proof and the public is accepting them as such. She is negatively characterizing Obama and his policies.
She participated in the pre and post analysis of Obama’s SOTU address on Fox News and the next day was interviewed by Greten van Susteren. In answer to the first question she said
  • Well, you know, listening to his speech last night, I was kind of getting some whiplash there. I’d listen to what he was saying, then I’d whip my head down there and read the text to try to figure out what is he actually saying here? How does what he is saying match up to the actions that he’s taken thus far? Because the acts that he’s taken thus far will not get the jobs created, as he says he desires.
  • That speech was so full of contradictions last night. And I know that, you know, afterwards, as we analyze it, we’re supposed to be, you know, quite diplomatic and analytic and quite gracious in our commentary. But come on! You know, again, so full of contradictions that the American public, I think, listened to the thing and said, How are jobs going to be created when you talk about cap and tax, which is taxing energy, which will prohibit more developments across our nation, when you talk about the second jobs bill, which is a stimulus bill, more spending, which is going to require tax increases to pay for these things. How in the world is that going to help the middle class? How will that help job creation?
In the first paragraph she is contrasting his words with his deeds. The public is already beginning to ignore what he says and Palin will speed that process along.
She starts her attack by saying “But come on.” and then lets loose. Name me one other politicians who is so direct. Palin is also good at ridiculing Obama. In all her speeches she deflates him with her ridicule. I love it.
She is framing the debate. “my common sense v your bullcrap”

What Sarah Palin Needs To Do For A 2012 Presidential Run!

In the February issue (not available online) of Newsmax Dick Morris has some words of advice for Governor Palin:

So what’s ACT III for Sarah Palin?  Whatever the pundits may tell the American public, Palin was nothing less than a smash hit in ACT I.  She did for John McCain what no other vice president candidate has ever done for any other presidential candidate: She delivered the lead to him for nearly a month. […]

ACT II was also a huge success for Palin. Her autobiography will likely sell more than 3 million copies, rivaling the best of all time.  We have to assume ACT III will involve a presidential race in 2012.  To be viable, Palin needs to set to rest any doubts triggered when she decided to resign as governor of Alaska last year. […]

Now she needs to tell us why she quit.  Her best bet would be to say that, up in Alaska, she couldn’t give her best efforts and really participate in the coming campaign to throw out the Democrats from Congress in 2010.... she should say that she felt she could not do justice both to the needs of her constituents and the needs of her country. […]

And then Sarah should go to every fundraiser and chicken dinner she can find, stumping for Republican candidates in 2010.
Palin needs to do what Hillary Clinton did in 2006 and 2007.  Pile up IOUs from all of her formidable star power to raise funds for their Senate and congressional candidates as well as for their state parties.
With a solid record of accomplishment in 2010 she will improve her image and establish herself as the solid front-runner for 2012.

No Cover, Not Even Finished But Sarah Palin Is A Phenomenon

Michael van der Galien, of Poligazette.com, had a nice article: Sarah Palin: Phenomenon
It’s almost beyond belief but Sarah Palin’s book “Going Rogue” is already the best selling book on both Amazon and Barnes & Nobles. This even though it isn’t finished yet.
Un-be-lie-va-ble.

Forty-eight days before the release and she’s already topped Dan Brown’s latest conspiracy-theory casserole at both top retailers. To put that in perspective, note that the book doesn’t even have a cover yet. So much for the Page Six hit piece about demand for her being slack.
Politico – which is no friend of Palin (this the organization that broke the $150.000 wardrobe scandal last year - adds that these pre-order sales are “unprecedented.” A publishing industry source said they “cannot remember a non-fiction book taking off like this in the pre-order market. It became number one only a couple of hours after nothing more than a date announcement. It is truly unprecedented.”
She could not possibly have hoped for a better start of a presidential campaign. And let’s face it, chances are she’ll run for president. She should. There’s not one Republican out there who is more popular among the grassroots. The only question is whether she’ll attempt to succeed Obama in 2012 or 2016.
Like it or not, this woman truly is a phenomenon.

How Sarah Palin Made Me a Fan

A very nice piece was posted by Race 4 2008 about how the author and people are realizing the media played a fast one on us about Sarah Palin.  Obama was a complete fabricated fantasy presented to us by the media and so was The Governor.  She is actually the person we new before McCain introduced her which was a popular and good Governor.  In my view, she says what she means and means what she says, no games or ulterior motives.  Her latest description of Obama is amazingly simple and insightful: “Obama is making the poor poorer.”

Again I come to you with an article about Sarah Palin. My turnaround regarding the former governor is perhaps as perplexing to you as it is to me. It is certainly so that the paradigm shift in the national dialogue and the sudden urgency that has arisen in the conservative base about the proper role of government has produced something of a change in what I perceive as a proper strategy. It has forced me to reassess what the practical should and could be — and the question of ends and means. But it is more than this, I think. It was certainly Palin’s Hong Kong speech that served as the catalyst for my soul-searching, but it is not that speech alone that has swayed my opinion. Upon evaluating her actions in the calendar year of 2009, I have come to the conclusion that I was honestly wrong about certain aspects of Palin.

When Sarah Palin resigned as governor, John Fund of the Wall Street Journal contended that her resignation had to do with how effective she could really be as governor while dealing with a barrage of frivolous ethics complaints. She essentially, in Fund’s words, was being paid to show up to work to defend herself. The state of Alaska was being drained of its time, money, and energy, and Palin determined that the overall costs of staying to fight outweighed the benefits of simply handing over the reins to now-Governor Parnell. For this, she was maligned as a quitter: if you’re a real fighter, then why don’t you stay around and, you know, fight? And the money wasn’t much, after all, in the grand scheme of things.

Doctor Zero at Hot Air provides the rebuttal that planted the seed within me to start warming up to Palin:
I don’t blame her for refusing to take any more personal or financial pounding from political operatives using Alaska’s odd government ethics system as a weapon. Some have said she was foolish to cite the cost to Alaskan taxpayers as a reason for her resignation, since it was a paltry two million dollars. To me, that doesn’t sound like a criticism – it’s a campaign slogan. Sarah Palin: She Still Thinks A Million Bucks Is A Lot of Money. If she runs for president in 2012, it will be against an incumbent who thinks a billion dollars of graft or waste is a rounding error in one of his big-government schemes. A lot of people will like the idea of voting for someone who doesn’t use rolls of taxpayer dollars to wipe the ink off their hands after signing legislation.

Indeed. Moreover, her newfound status as a national lightning rod made her a chief target for Alaska Democrats who wanted to earn a killing by taking her down. The maverick politician who once boasted a 90% approval rating was no more — and she could never come back in such an atmosphere. I have no reason to believe that Palin desired to govern as anything other than a pragmatic center-right Republican, and it’s rather, well, refreshing, in hindsight, to realize that there is actually a politician out there who would rather just get out of a system in which she can’t do anything productive.
Only a knave or a fool would think that she didn’t realize she’d be branded as a quitter. And yet, she decided that it wasn’t worth her blessed, almighty title to be ineffective. She stated in her resignation address that she could be more effective elsewhere: “Only dead fish go with the flow.”

She seems to have been vindicated. Her decision to leave certainly wasn’t nonsensical, in hindsight: she’s had a lot more of an impact on the national debate from behind her computer chair than she would have from the governor’s mansion. Just like she had more of an impact by resigning from the Oil and Gas Commission than by staying on it, the tool of resignation once again came in handy. From Facebook to Hong Kong, Palin’s words have echoed with force matched only by the president himself.

When Sarah Palin contends in her Hong Kong speech that we don’t want fixes, but rather freedom, it sends my classically liberal heart a-flutter. When she has the audacity to go after the third rail that is the Federal Reserve, my eyebrow raises, and not in a bad way. When she simultaneously condemns protectionism and the human rights record of China, I can’t help but clap my hands. Yeah, yeah, she had a speechwriter. Just like Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, and Mr. Intellectual himself, President Obama. Is Sarah necessarily, strictly speaking, as intelligent as any of the three? Probably not. But what’s her ideology like? It seems to be a lot more like Barry Goldwater’s than Richard Nixon’s. If it turns out that we can’t beat Barack Obama, I’d rather send a message with Sarah Palin than with Mitt Romney.

Now, I’m not turning into John Ziegler or Kristofer Lorelli, here, but my opinion of Sarah Palin is now officially positive. Freed of the McCain campaign’s fumbling and often bizarre calculations, Sarah, I believe, can be set loose to do what she really wants to do. I eagerly await her next speech and her upcoming book. If she can sway me, she can sway others. Go get ‘em, Sarah!

The Power Of Palin: Glenn Beck Beats The O'Reilly Factor

All Governor Palin has to do is post: Watch Glenn Beck and he beats the most watched show on cable: The O’Reilly Factor! Governor Palin posted this in the notes section of Facebook page:

An Invitation

FOX News' Glenn Beck is doing an extraordinary job this week walking America behind the scenes of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and outlining who is actually running the White House. Monday night he asked us to invite one friend to watch; tonight I invite all my friends to watch.

-Sarah Palin

Big Beck: Goes over 3 million viewers, beats O’Reilly in demo: Cable News Ratings for Wednesday, August 26, 2009

Though a little scandal might alienate advertisers, it’s pure ratings gold. Last night Glenn Beck had over 3 million viewers at 5pm, second only to O’Reilly for the night. But, Beck had more 25-54 viewers than O’Reilly (888K to 876K). I don’t watch or really even care about the cable news wars, but still…wow. Even though Beck airs before prime-time, when there are fewer people watching TV, he had the most 25-54 viewers in the cable news world for the night.

The sleazy left-wing Jew & American hating group ChangeOfChange.org has attempted to shut down the Glenn Beck Show. Glenn was dead on correct when he said:

"This president has exposed himself as a guy over and over and over again who has a deep-seated hatred for white people ... this guy is, I believe, a racist."
